Bultaco Models

The Bultaco Brinco was launched with an initial run of 175 'limited edition' bikes with a white frame and yellow trim. Each bike carried a unique serial number in the decals on the seat post cover. The bikes were offered on pre-order at the end of 2014 for €4,800, and all were sold by mid 2015. Deliveries began soon after, and with the arrival of the limited edition bikes at dealers, test rides began.

Bultaco Brinco R

In late 2015, the 'Brinco R' was announced with a price of £3695, and the order books opened. The 'R' was essentially an identical 'volume' production version available initially in blue trim, followed shortly after by a red trim version.  The only notable difference is the 'R' was fitted with cheaper bultaco branded plastic pedals, instead of the metal ones fitted to the orginal bike.

Bultaco Brinco RE, C and S

In May 2016, Bultaco announced 3 new models would be joining the line-up.

The bikes were unveiled at the UK Press Launch in London.

The new additions were built around the same components and architecture as the R, but were homolgated under the L1E categorisation, granting them the same legal rights as a 50cc moped. The changes were :

  • Brinco RE - Homolgation, lights, speed limit - £3995

  • Brinco C - Homolgation, lights, speed limit and lower seat - £4495

  • Brinco S - Homolgation, lights, speed limit, lower seat and road tyres - £4695

Bultaco Brinco Discovery Edition

Mid 2017 Bultaco announced via press release a new limited edition version of the Brinco, based on the R :

"We present the Brinco Discovery, a newcomer to the family! An exclusive limited edition of the Brinco that we developed together with the iconic Land Rover off-road brand and its “Discovery” model.

Bultaco and Land Rover are two historic brands that have been growing and adapting to new times to continue having fun in the mountains, without ever losing their essence. Two brands of pure emotion, nature and adventure destined to meet. The Brinco Discovery is a limited edition that boasts an exclusive design.

A new Brinco that will not leave you indifferent.

If you are a lover of adventure, exclusivity and technology..."

The bike went on sale at a price of €5330.

Bultaco Albero

In Late October 2017, the Albero was added to the line up. Similar to the S, the Albero was styled for the urban enviroment, and 100% on road use.

"Bultaco presents its new urban concept, the Albero 4.5. This innovative urban mobility solution is for all those who want to continue enjoying a 100% Bultaco experience but this time, in the city."

The bike was available in brown or silver, and had lights, a horn, lower seat height, a new front mud guard, a stand and wider rims with crazy bob tyres. The bike had L1E homologation for road registration.

Bultaco Brinco RB

The final flourish for Bultaco came in January 2018, with the addition of the final production model, the Brinco RB. The bike retailed in the UK for just £3795, undercutting many other electric bikes on the market. With changing regulations, the press release also stated the Bultaco would also launch a road legal restrictor kit for the bike that would tame it for use on UK roads by commuters under new regulations.

To achieve this price, components were either downgraded or removed. All the plastics (with the exception of the sump guard style controller cover) were removed; fork guards, face plate and mounting bracket, front and rear mud guards and seat post cover.

The same DNM USD forks remained (minus the bultaco specific fork guards) but the rear shock was downgraded to a DNM TORCH 22 without the external reservoir or adjustment.

The braking system was also downgraded. Levers were downgraded from MT5e to MT4e, and the front caliper was downgraded from a 4 pot to a 2 pot caliper. The derailleur was downgraded from a SRAM x-9 to a SRAM x-5, and the Schlumpf drive was deleted and replaced with a standard single chain ring.

The final and most significant change was to the electronics. To reduce cost the Bultaco display was removed. Activation of the bike switched from the RFID card and braclet to a handlebar mounted key, integrated into the throttle housing. The key switch also housed a simple display to show remaining battery.

"The Brinco R-B is the line’s entry version. It maintains all the essence and boldness of the Brinco R but at an irresistible price. There are no longer any excuses for not getting a Brinco!

The Brinco R-B features some pared-down elements from the Brinco-R, but without sacrificing anything in

terms of its performance (maximum power: 2 kW, top speed: 60 km/h) and with the same high-quality components. The result is a product that is even more affordable than the Brinco R, with a more radical look."

The RB may have been an attempt to broaden the appeal to the wider mountain bike community, but some dealers felt it was a final cost cutting exercise to try to bring profitability to the company.

Other Bultaco Models

In April 2018 stories surfaced of a Military version of the Bultaco Brinco.

It appears a small number of military specials were manutactured in brown and red colour schemes.

During an event at an airbase in Seville, the bikes were tested by representatives from more than 10 different security organisations.

Following the collapse of Bultaco some examples of these models found their way into the hands of public owners.

In April 2019, pictures appeared on the Bultaco UK facebook group of a couple of interesting prototype bikes. One was a cafe racer style bike with Albero type rims and no pedals, instead having footpegs on the swingarm. The other (with Bultaco Military decals on the frame) carried a long motorcross style seat and a tubular reat swing arm. It also had an additional set of pegs on the swingarm, so could carry a second person.
