Glastonbury racing driver Paul Lund and his Dorking-based co-driver Marc Guenigault broke a three month hiatus to return to competition in his Toyota Rav 4.
Lund was originally considering doing more Tout Terrain events in France, but instead has turned his attention to the Netherlands.
He chose the event at Maasbommel in central-eastern Holland to make his Dutch off-road debut, the fifth event in the NK 2009 Off Road Calendar.
Competition in Holland is different from the French Rally Raids. Lund said: "There are two stages around fields that are so rough you have a job staying in the seat.
"They've made jumps at various points around the tracks because of course there are no hills in Holland. One stage is four kilometres and the other one two and half kms.
"You get to contest them four times on Saturday and then three more on Sunday. As with other events, you set off at the usual one-minute intervals, but here you get caught by the faster class cars and catch the slower ones."
Lund was in good form once again, the Glastonbury driver adapting to the travelling well. "I think they were a bit horrified by the way I was taking the jumps flat out, but that's why I have Ohlins suspension," he said.
"The Rav didn't miss a beat all weekend and we finished eighth overall, which I was very pleased with on our debut out there."
Lund had intended to contest more events this year, but has been concentrating on his business. "I'd love to compete more, although that's easier to say when things are going well," he said.
"The economy hasn't really allowed me to do much more, but I really wanted to get out and do something slightly different."
