The racing takes place in a format known as 'Competitive Safari'. A Competitive Safari is a timed off road event where a cross-country course is marked out over route that can vary from 2 to 8 miles, depending on terrain. Competitors will be required to undertake a number of timed runs (usually about 10) during a set period.
The vehicles taking part vary from highly modified 4x4s, two wheel drive buggies and standard production 4x4s with safety modifications, such as roll cages, safety harnesses and fire extinguisher. Vehicles must pass scrutineering prior to competition and competitors must produce a current MSA competition license as well as a valid club membership card.
Although it is possible to spend limitless amounts of money on a safari vehicle, competition on a limited budget is possible and indeed encouraged by SCOR!
The SCOR Championship is spilt into 4 classes; Class A - 4wd up to 2000cc, Class B - 4wd up to 2001cc to 3500cc, Class C - 4wd over 3501cc and Class D - 2wd any capacity. |
